Hostage/Barricade Deployment and Entry Decision Making- This classroom instruction deals with the proper entry/search techniques of hostage rescue, centipede, covert entry, slow search etc. The dynamic entry creates an atmosphere of distraction and sensory overload, using vocalization and distraction devices. The entry team employs offensive rather than defensive tactics. The technique involves overpowering the criminal element with speed, aggression, and superiority of force. Officer safety is dependent upon the speed, efficiency, and teamwork with which the entry team secures the target. Each position on the team is of equal importance. The principles of covert deployment minimize the risk to all parties involved, when utilized to save hostages and apprehend suspects with minimal force. Covert deployment provides the mission commander with another option for resolution of a situation.
Practical and Techniques- The students will have the opportunity to practice each position in each entry technique.
Hostage/Barricade Scenarios- Students will be presented with different scenarios, and forced to choose, and execute, the entry technique that will best resolve the situation.
Bus Entries- Classroom and Practical. A bus assault is one of the most dangerous missions the SWAT team will undertake. The reason for this is the initial exposure the assault team faces as it enters the bus. This class is designed to minimize those risks and make the assault team somewhat less vulnerable.
Victim/Officer Rescue- Tactical officers often arrive at situations to find civilian and/or officers down with immobilizing injuries. To accomplish a rescue, while being in the line of fire, presents the tactical officers with many problems. The class designed to empower the officer with tactics to safely accomplish a rescue.
