Active shooter incidents like VA Tech across our nation, Law Enforcement and private security professionals within every community must acknowledge the absolute need for a shift in emergency deployment, tactics, policy, and
protocol for first responders to effectively respond to and stop an active shooter incident. This is an intensive two day experience that is designed to accomplish one goal: to save lives. Students will receive one half day of classroom instruction, and one day of advanced firearms and close quarters combat shooting, and intense and realistic force-on-force active shooter scenario training. These practical exercises will be conducted in HSI’s shoot house. This training is conducted by instructors that have extensive tactical experience in planning, commanding, and participating in the successful resolution of hundreds of critical incidents. Each element of instruction is based on lessons learned through "real life" experiences.

- Historic Overview of Active Shooter Events
- Radical Islamic Terrorism and Future Active Threats
- Survival Mindset and Principles of Active Threat
- Active Shooter vs. Barricade/Hostage Situations
- Shooting on the Move and CQB Skills
- Team Formation and Movement
- Contact Team and Rescue Team Tactics
- Approach, Containment, and Perimeter
- Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
- Firearms and Stress Management
- Force-on-Force Active Threat Encounters
- Supervisory Functions and Responsibilities
Ammunition: 300 rounds of pistol ammunition.
Gear List: Duty handgun, three 10 round or more magazines minimum (5 preferred), duty
belt with holster and pistol magazine pouch, weapons cleaning kit, eye protection and ear protection.
Comfortable clothing appropriate for climate and conditions, two to three long sleeve shirts,
gloves (able to access trigger guard), soft body armor or protective tactical vest, groin protection (vest attachment, athletic cup, or towel to be folded over beltline) flashlight, water bottle or other hydration system, notebook & pen.
Note: The following equipment will be strictly prohibited from entering the training area on day2: Weapons of any kind, defense aerosols, live ammunition or magazines, batons or nightsticks, diversionary devices.
Course Cost: $150.00 includes lunch each training day, and required safety masks. A current listing of Hotels for over night lodging is available on our web site. Most items on the gear list may be purchased at additional cost from our Pro Shop.
